Advion Appoints Vice President International Business Development and Support to Expand Global Strategy

October 10, 2012 – Ithaca, NY – Advion, Inc., a leading life sciences Systems and Consumables developer, announces the appointment of Vijay Gupta, PhD as Vice President International Business Development and Support focused on the expression compact mass spectrometer (CMS). This continues Advion’s expansion within all areas of the organization from manufacturing, service/support and sales and marketing, which has accelerated since the Spring of 2012.  The CMS high performance single quadrupole mass spectrometer, introduced earlier this year, has achieved immediate success and significant orders from Asian markets, with volume from this region at more than twice the anticipated levels to date.  With a multi-channel distribution strategy that utilizes distributors, direct sales and OEM partners, Dr. Gupta will be responsible for managing and supporting these regional relationships, as well as engaging directly with customers to maximize the success of the broadening mass spec product lines.

As recognized by leading global instrument companies, Asia, South America and the Middle East represent a large base of industrial and academic synthetic chemists developing novel structures for medical and chemical purposes.  All of these scientists will benefit from the high performance, affordable, compact expression CMS.

Dr. Gupta is a seasoned professional in Advion’s organic chemistry markets having been a bench chemist himself, and serving as the head of International sales for many years at Biotage and Biolin.  “Many of our management team, Asian partners, and customers already know Vijay; his name is associated with the highest customer support, business ethics, and market/applications knowledge.  We could not be more fortunate to have him aboard,” says David B. Patteson, President and CEO. “I will continue to be actively involved in these regions, but Vijay will be responsible for day-to-day activities and for leading the International strategy for the CMS.  In Asia alone (outside of Japan), we have received more orders in the first six months of our fiscal year than were anticipated for the full year.  We must add resources to support our channel partners and support the customers.  It’s a great situation for us at this particular moment.”

The appointment of Dr. Gupta to Advion’s executive management team is the latest in the company’s more than 20% expansion in headcount to meet the fast-growing global demand for the new compact mass spectrometer. In the most recent quarter ending September 30th, orders for the product more than tripled from the previous quarter, were 50% above plan, and are on a unit volume run rate approaching nearly 10% of the global single quadrupole market share in the first year following production launch.   A global training center and program will be initiated for all customers in November and benefit from the LC/MS knowledge backbone of the company.

“We took great care to develop the expression CMS, and the response from the marketplace has proven that the product has hit its mark with not only our target market, but in application areas we did not fully anticipate. We are now in the enviable position of keeping pace with the market,” concludes Mr. Patteson.

Advion Enlarges Distributor Network, Appointing Scientifix Pty Ltd as Exclusive Australian Distributor of its Compact Mass Spectrometer and Ion Sources

June 28, 2012 – Ithaca, NY – Advion, Inc. a leading life sciences Systems and Consumables developer, continues to expand its global coverage and appoints Scientifix Pty Ltd as the exclusive Australian distributor for the expression, a Compact Mass Spectrometer (CMS) approximately half the size, and half the price, of existing single quadrupole mass spectrometers on the market. The newly-released CMS has recently been introduced to the market in Australia with visits to leading Pharma and academic/government research sites – with great interest and end user orders are already received and being delivered. Scientifix will also represent Advion for its broadening Ion Source range, including the popular TriVersa NanoMate, and the newly released Chip-Mate.

The expression CMS is designed for the discovery research and process development synthetic organic chemistry market. Compact enough to operate in fume hoods and space-restricted laboratories, chemists now have direct access to identify, monitor and confirm compounds rapidly as they are created in the reactor. Moreover, the personal single quadrupole mass spectrometer allows for rapid compound confirmation of normal phase chromatography fractions.

Traditionally, chemists initiate a multi‐hour reaction and periodically withdraw samples for analysis in an open access mass spectrometry lab. The remote analysis can take hours, decreasing the usefulness of the information and building workflow inefficiencies. Additionally, large numbers of normal phase purification fractions are generated and add to the central lab burden, further slowing vital feedback. Available systems are too complex, costly, large and lacked design elements to be used in a hood next to the reaction. The expression CMS is easy to use with an intuitive software package. The combination of a small footprint (< 11 inches wide) and critical design features which permit operation within a fume hood, or next to existing bench instrumentation, conserve valuable laboratory space.

“We are very pleased to welcome Scientifix to our growing global network of distributors. This is a very experienced, technically gifted and supportive partner – and they have uncommon skills in both the synthetic chemistry and biochemistry. We could not be more fortunate to have this company on our team,” says David B. Patteson, Advion’s CEO.

“Scientifix are pleased to be involved with Advion who are already established as one of the innovators of mass spectrometry. Adding the mass spectrometry range to the products already represented by Scientifix strengthens our links with researchers in many areas of organic synthesis, proteomics and analytical chemistry. Furthermore the customer focused business model adopted by Scientifix assures researchers of competent and ethical support for these exciting products,” says Ken Baker, the Laboratory Products Specialist for Scientifix Pty Ltd.

Advion Announces Increased expression CMS Orders Received from Every Major Continent

March 26, 2012 – Ithaca, NY– Advion, Inc. announces that numerous orders have been received from North America, Europe and Asia for their new expression CMS single quadrupole mass spectrometer. Despite the official launch timed for Pittcon March 12-15, and ACS March 25-28, early commercial demand for the product from the market has exceeded all expectations. According to Dave Patteson, Advion’s President and CEO, “There have been few product launches in my 30 year career which have paralleled the inbound interest from both end users and OEM partners for this product. It seems as if we have truly opened a new market segment with an enabling price point, footprint, features and form factor. The original vision for this product dates back nearly ten years to discussions we held with leaders from major pharmaceutical accounts, and we have them to thank for this outcome.”

Advion has begun shipments of the expression CMS, and has exceeded the initial order rates and production forecasts expected for the product line. The company is expanding its production facilities to accommodate the demand and expects to be fully operational in the new site by mid-April. As noted in a press conference held last week at Pittcon, the favorable demand has consumed the company’s production capacity through May. Advion has responded to this by increasing capacity, building more units, and hiring additional staff to meet customer and partner requirements.
