Release of Chip-Mate, a Chip-based nano-LC Ion Source for Mass Spectrometers

December 9th, 2013 – Ithaca, NY – Advion, Inc., a leading instruments and consumables developer for the life sciences industry, announced today the release of the latest in chip-based technology, the Chip-Mate™. The Chip-Mate is an ESI Chip®-based nano-LC ion source for applications requiring small micron ID HPLC columns and nanoelectrospray ionization (nano-ESI). This latest product offering from Advion is a line extension of its well-established TriVersa NanoMate® technology.

While the TriVersa NanoMate has multiple modes of operation, the Chip-Mate is an easy-to use nano-LC ion source that focuses on stable and reliable nano-ESI through its ability to sense poor spray performance and engage the next nozzle. Ease-of-use and robustness of nano-ESI are important features for proteomics customers as well as applications in highly regulated environments such as biomarker/biosimilar and small molecule quantification utilizing nano-LC.

For use with the Chip-Mate, Advion has created a smaller footprint ESI Chip with 25 emitter nozzles and an integrated memory card. In combination with spray sensing and next nozzle capability, researchers can now have complete confidence for 24/7 nano-LC/MS/MS operation.

“Advion is known for its fit-for-purpose products and creating instrumentation that eases challenging workflows. This latest development offers the established benefits seen with chip-based nanoelectrospray in a package just for nano-LC users,” notes Simon Prosser, Vice President of Marketing. “We have long anticipated this product introduction, and given the advancements in nano-LC and proteomics, we believe this is the optimal time to offer this product to the market.”

Compatible with Thermo Fisher model mass spectrometers, including the LTQ, Orbitrap, Fusion, Exactive TSQ, etc., the Chip-Mate is now available for shipment with first units shipping this month to customers in Europe, the US and South America. Advion’s Compact Mass Spectrometer Earns Big Accolades from SDi

November 11, 2013 – Ithaca, NY – Founded in 1993, Advion, Inc. supplies ion sources and compact mass spectrometers to the life sciences, food and environmental industries. Last month it earned a well‐represented place in Strategic Directions International, Inc.’s (SDi) report “Mass Spectrometry: Limitless Innovation in Analytical Science” based on information gathered through calendar year 2012. Being recognized by an independent, well‐respected industry source within its first year of commercialization is a testament to the expression CMS’ fit‐for‐purpose design and strong market message. SDi estimates that Advion earned approximately 8% unit volume of the single quadrupole market revenue – a notable accomplishment given it was achieved within the first 12 months of commercialization.

“Advion launched the expression compact mass spectrometer (CMS) in March 2012, but has over 20 years of mass spectrometry experience. Being grouped among the industry’s leading mass spectrometer vendors proves that Advion addressed an unmet need within the market,” says David Patteson, Advion’s President and CEO. “Advion was ranked as the highest regarded and most respected among all small MS companies, due to our offering of ion sources and successful entry of the CMS, and we could not be prouder.”

The full report is available for purchase in the SDi website.

Advion Signs Its 10th Compact Mass Spectrometer OEM Agreement. Rapid Commercialization Ascent Continues

September 16, 2013 – Ithaca, NY – Advion, Inc., the dominant supplier of Compact Mass Spectrometers for life sciences, food and environmental applications, recently signed its 10th OEM agreement for the expanding expression CMS product line in far-reaching industries and market segments.

“We are particularly pleased with the rapid commercial adoption by our end user sales since our production release in June 2012, which now are into the hundreds worldwide.” says David B. Patteson, President and CEO. “Our direct sales focus for synthetic organic, natural product and peptide chemists will continue.  In parallel, we have had an active, nearly two-year period of cultivating strategic partnerships with major global instrument companies for their incorporation of our high performance CMS into their bundled solution-based offerings.  Their launches have begun over the last few months, and will be phased-in through 2014.”

“Advion’s policy remains to not announce the identity of partnerships given the market messages, launch cycles and confidential nature of the agreements. Moreover, given the vast predominance of Advion’s CMS orders have been generated by end users, until very recently, the contribution of OEM unit volume was considered minor.  But given the recent launch movements of our OEM business, this now warrants more disclosure since the CMS system form factor will start to appear more universally across varied complimentary segments to Advion’s direct and distribution partner commercial operations.” Mr. Patteson added, “Other than a few more OEM agreements which should be executed in the next several months – and these should not compete with existing Advion partnerships – we believe we have optimally established our geographic and commercial platforms to the customer’s ultimate product access and support benefit”.

Fortifying the company’s ascent, The American Chemical Society meeting held this past week in Indianapolis, IN marked the launch of an additional expression CMS system with extended mass range to 2000 m/z, and Data Apex Clarity integrated LC/CMS software compatibility which will be resold by Advion to control a vast selection of liquid chromatography systems.  Moreover, the quarter ending September 30, 2013 will be the 7th consecutive quarter of meaningful order and revenue increases, with current fiscal quarterly revenue up nearly 50% versus prior year.
