SEE MORE: ADVION LAUNCHES PEAK EXPRESS™ SOFTWARE FOR IMPROVED COMPOUND ID AND REACTION MONITORING

August 20, 2017 – Ithaca, NY/Washington, D.C. – Advion, Inc., a leading systems and consumables developer for the life sciences industry, announced it has released Peak Express™ software, available with the expression compact mass spectrometer (CMS). The software introduces a patent-pending breakthrough in novel mass spectrum display, available exclusively in the Advion Peak Express™ software suite: The Delta Spectrum (ΔS), which looks beyond chemical noise and automatically detects even the smallest peaks without the user needing to know the product ion mass in advance.

Advion’s Peak Express™ software amplifies detection capabilities, allowing a user to find adducts, dimers, fragments, side-reactions and other unexpected compounds at the click of a button, in real-time or with later data processing. Users have the traditional options of full scans, XIC, SIM and and the Delta Spectrum, and can acquire XIC-quality data while scanning the entire mass range, allowing the Peak Express™ software to indicate the m/z directly.  The ΔS compares the ion intensity at each m/z interval across the mass spectrum to a base line level measured at the start of the analysis, then records the differential in intensity.

“There is a need for reaction monitoring, compound identification and purification in environments where high levels of contaminants and chemical noise are present,” said David Patteson, Advion CEO. “Our latest addition to the software suite gives users one-click access to detect compounds or provide mass-directed purification without providing the compound mass. Peak Express™ is like having the expertise of a dedicated mass spectroscopist, digging deep into the data to find small, unknown peaks that would otherwise have gone undetected, or reveal the detail that would have otherwise been missed. The chemist can “see more” as peaks are revealed and chemical noise is eliminated from the spectrum.”

Peak Express™ can be used with any technique that generates a peak, e.g. HPLC/CMS, TLC/CMS, Flash/CMS, and FIA, both in real time and for later data processing. The Peak Express™ software is available now with the expression CMS. To learn more about Advion’s user-friendly software suite and the variety of novel ion sources available for the expression CMS, visit www.advion.com.

Advion’s New Inert Probe Allows Real Time Reaction Monitoring of Air Sensitive Compounds

April 3, 2017 – Ithaca, NY – Advion, Inc., a leading systems and consumables developer for the life sciences industry, announced today the availability of the inert Atmospheric Solids Analysis Probe, or iASAP, for easy sampling and fast analysis of air-sensitive compounds such as metal catalysts and organometallics. The iASAP inlet is the latest workflow integration and sample introduction technique for the expression CMS, the company’s standout compact mass spectrometer, bringing versatile mass analysis directly to the chemists’ bench. This new ion source, first announced at the American Chemical Society National Meeting last year, is now available for immediate purchase.

Traditional ASAP® is a well-established technique that provides the synthetic chemist with instant mass analysis of solid and liquid samples with no sample preparation. Professor Ingo Krossing’s group at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg recognized the need to extend the use of this technique to air-sensitive compounds such as catalysts and organometallics. They created a modified version of ASAP that they named inert ASAP, or iASAP, that protects the samples in an environment of inert gas as they are transferred to the CMS, preventing contact with the air and subsequent oxidation.

iASAP allows them to use this technique even with highly reactive compounds that cannot be exposed to the air. Air-sensitive catalysts and organometallic compounds can be sampled and analyzed directly from Schlenk lines and glove boxes without risking decomposition.

“Some of our best product enhancement ideas come from our users,” said David Patteson, Advion’s CEO. “Around 20% of all synthetic chemistry involves highly reactive compounds that cannot be exposed to the air. iASAP allows Chemists to sample and analyze these compounds directly from Schlenk lines and glove boxes while protecting sample integrity.”

The technique allows a synthetic chemist to sample with a special probe, without disturbing the inert environment, by simply dipping or swiping the probe across a liquid or solid surface. The sample continues to be protected in inert gas as it is transferred to the ion source of the expression CMS and mass spectra are acquired in just seconds.

The iASAP is available now. To learn more about the variety of novel ion sources, workflow integrations and sampling options offered for the expression CMS, visit www.advion.com.

ASAP is a USPTO registered trademark by M&M Mass Spec Consulting LLC

Advion Launches Novel Metal Catalyst Reaction Monitoring Probe Collaborates with Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg and Files Related Patents

March 13, 2016 – Ithaca, NY – Advion, Inc., a leading systems and consumables developer for the life sciences industry, announced during this week’s 251st American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition in San Diego, California the introduction of a breakthrough sample introduction technique for its line of expression compact mass spectrometers (CMS). The new iASAP (inert Atmospheric Solids Analysis Probe (ASAP®)) was originally developed at the University of Pennsylvania by Charles McEwen, Ph.D, and enhanced by the Freiberg researchers.

ASAP gives chemists and chemistry students the ability to ionize liquid and solid samples for analysis by mass spectrometer without the need for sample preparation. The technique allows a synthetic chemist to perform real-time reaction monitoring by simply dipping the ASAP probe into their reaction mixture and inserting the probe into the atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) source of the CMS. Mass spectral data is presented within seconds.

For air-sensitive compounds, such as metal catalysts, iASAP is a viable technique to prevent oxidization and facilitate their assay. Advion credits Professor Ingo Krossing’s group at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg (Freiberg) with modifying the ASAP probe to protect the compounds in inert gas as they are transferred to the CMS, enabling such measurements without the traditonal need for glove boxes. Advion and Freiburg negotiated a transfer of the patent estate to Advion to allow global commercialization.

“The best product enhancements come from our users,” says Simon Prosser, Vice President of Marketing. “A large percentage of all synthetic chemistry involves air-sensitive compounds and needs to be carried out in glove boxes or Schlenk lines and Advion is pleased to have collaborated with Prof. Krossing’s group to bring this enhancement to others.”

The iASAP is available for quoting and will begin shipping in May 2016.

Advion Launches Cost-effective, Bench-top Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis and Protein Characterization Mass Spectrometer

March 9, 2016 – Ithaca, NY – Advion, Inc., a leading systems and consumables developer for the life sciences industry, announced during the ABRF 2016 Annual Meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida the introduction of a proteins and peptides analysis system, ‘TIDES EXPRESS.  The system combines Advion’s new, easy-to-use, HPLC system with the extended mass range expressionL compact mass spectrometer (CMS).  The new platform improves the workflow of chemists performing peptide synthesis and needing fast mass analysis of each reaction step as well as final products. It is the perfect technique for monitoring reactions in solid phase peptide synthesizers.  Additional fragmentation analysis and charge deconvolution tools also enhance its use for protein characterization.

Solid phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) allows for rapid, parallel synthesis of peptides of various amino acid (AA) lengths, some of which routinely exceed 30 or 40 in length. Although modern SPPS shows a high degree of automation, some SPPS peptide targets remain challenging to synthesize and a single suboptimal synthesis cycle can cause costly re-runs in large scale or long chain protein production – rapid analysis of each reaction step can prevent this.  Mass spectrometry provides both molecular mass and amino acid sequence information through specific and selective molecule fragmentation along the amino acid backbone.  The ‘TIDES EXPRESS includes an easy-to-use HPLC gradient system with manual sample injector, expressionL CMS along with fragmentation analysis and charge deconvolution software tools for easy and excellent data interpretation.

“The complexity of proteins and peptides analysis requires efficient and cost-effective analysis for informed decision making,” says Simon Prosser, Vice President of Marketing.  “The ease-of-use and compact size makes the ‘TIDES EXPRESS ideal for bench-top reaction monitoring of SPPS systems, most of which to-date have been limited to UV or IR monitoring of analytes.”

Advion is now quoting the ‘TIDES EXPRESS and deliveries will begin in mid-April.
