In this new profile, David Rotella of Montclair State University discusses how the expression CMS allowed him to bring industry-level technology to his small academic research group.
On-Demand Webinar: Developing Photochemical Methods in Flow
Despite the potential to achieve novel and interesting chemical transformations, photochemistry still remains largely underutilized by the organic chemistry community. This presentation highlights ways of overcoming common difficulties.
“There is no substitute for having a mass spectrometer a few steps away from your bench.”
In this new profile, John Matson of Virginia Tech discusses how the expression CMS has sped up small molecules and peptide synthesis as well as enabled qualitative decomposition studies on compounds.
Rapid microfluidic flow hydrogenation for reduction or deprotection of 18F-labeled compounds
Neil Vasdev, et al.
Chem. Commun., 2013,49, 8755-8757
DOI: 10.1039/C3CC45166F
Lead by Neil Vasdev, a collaborative group from Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Northeastern University, and Advion, have combined the benefits of both microfluidics and flow hydrogenation to provide facile access to previously underutilized reduction and protecting group chemistries for PET imaging applications. The rapid removal of an O-benzyl protecting group to prepare 2-[18F]fluoroquinolin-8-ol and the reduction of a nitro group in the synthesis of 4-[18F]fluoroaniline were achieved within 3 minutes.
Advion expands its line of compact mass spectrometers just for chemists
Advion now presents the new expression S compact mass spectrometer (CMS) designed specifically for academic, industry and research chemistry groups.
“Advion has brought to the chemist’s bench the best-in-class mass spectrometer performance previously reserved only for mass spec specialists.”
Now you have a choice for the best fit for your specific application.
The expression S is available now for orders with a 12 week lead time.
ESI-Mass Spectrometer for as little as $1,300/month
Analyzes 80% of compounds that GC/MS can’t
LC/MS is the gold standard in separation science, but until now, was financially out of reach for many teaching instutions. The expression CMS is an electrospray mass spectrometer that couples to most LC systems and is easy to maintain and use for even the most novice user.

“Our students no longer wait a month for results.”
In this new profile, Jessica Martin of Northeastern State University of Oklahoma discusses how the expression CMS provides answers faster than sending samples out. Previously, her students had to wait one month for results.
expression CMS used for phytochemical investigation
Users of the single-quadrupole compact mass spectrometer at the Department of Pharmacognosy recently presented their work of phytochemical investigation which was accomplished by coupling an HPLC system to an expression CMS, compact mass spectrometer.
Successful coupling of SFC to CMS for mass-directed fraction collection
Advion co-authored with a major pharmaceutical partner to create two application notes highlighting the benefits of supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) coupled to a compact mass spectrometer for mass directed fraction collection.
“An easy to operate, robust and reliable mass spectrometer”
Dr. Roberto Rinaldi, of the Max-Planck-Institute for Coal Research, summarizes his experience with the expression CMS generating large numbers of diverse samples.
