expression CMS

High performance compact mass spectrometer

The expression CMS provides essential information quickly and improves the chemist’s workflow. Modern organic labs have become automated; faster and more critical reactions require co-located versatile analytics — the expression CMS solves this at an affordable price.

"Our laboratory has recently purchased an Advion expression Compact Mass Spectrometer. Our choice was not only related to the small footprint but also to the versatility of the system. The Advion expression CMS provides the quality of results necessary to improve research outcomes in our hit and lead discovery efforts."

Tiago Rodrigues – ETH Zürich, Switzerland

Versatility

Few laboratories analyze one type of sample or one technique all day, every day. Most require the ability to analyze a range of samples using more than one technique. This allows for a more complete identification and characterization of samples. The expression CMS integrates with nearly every chemistry technique.

  • Atmospheric Solids Analysis Probe (ASAP)
  • Thin-layer Chromatography (TLC by Plate Express)
  • 'Tides (peptide and other biomolecule analysis system)
  • Flow Injection
  • UHPLC
  • Flow Chemistry
  • Flash Chromatography
  • Preparative Liquid Chromatography (Prep-LC)
  • Supercritical Fluids Chromatography (SFC)

VIDEO: How to Perform Easy & Rapid Compound ID

"My recent initiative in providing and finding research funding has resulted in the purchase of the first Advion expression compact mass spectrometer to be installed in Australia in our research laboratory. This will improve the quality of the decision making process of my PG students in the research place leading to more efficient research outcomes and provide a mass spectral service to disciplines in our college at RMIT University." Helmut Hugel - RMIT University, Australia

Identification of a Pesticide Used in Lawn Care by vAPCI Compact Mass Spectrometry

At regular intervals throughout the year a local lawn service applies pesticides to the lawn surrounding the Advion headquarters in Ithaca, NY. The grass is very uniform and not a single dandelion or crabgrass plant is visible – so we wondered, what chemical do they use? After an application in the early spring, we sampled…

Classifying Cheeses by vAPCI Compact Mass Spectrometry

In this application note we demonstrate the capability of the Advion expressions CMS to analyze volatile fatty acids of various types of cheeses using our vapor APCI (vAPCI) ion source. By heating the cheese samples, we released various volatile compounds, mainly fatty acids, and analyzed the headspace without any sample preparation or derivatization. We then…

Screening of Dietary Supplements by ASAP® Compact Mass Spectrometry

In this application note, we demonstrate the use of the Advion expressionL CMS with an atmospheric solids analysis probe (ASAP) ion source to analyze two supplements (figure 1) that contain DMBA, a synthetic stimulant that has not been tested on humans. The substance is the chemical cousin to drug DBAA, which is currently banned by…

Chemically Tracking Spoilage of Meat Using Vapor Mass Spectrometry

This application note demonstrates the use of the Advion expression CMS (compact mass spectrometer) coupled with a vapor APCI (vAPCI) ion source to directly detect several key chemicals given off of meat as it spoils at ambient temperature. Evolution of putrescine, cadaverine, and indole were measured  over several days as meat spoiled.
